Visa Information

Business visas

Business visas allow the traveler to enter the country for a given period of time for the purpose of conducting business meetings, attending seminars and any other business related activity, where the traveler continues to be paid into a bank account in their country of residence. In almost all cases a business visa does not allow the traveler to be employed by and paid by a company based in the country in question. Business visa applications require documentation from the companies in the country of residence and the country of destination. Some countries may issue a visa called a conference visa, which allows the traveler to attend a conference only and not to conduct any other type of business while in the country.

Tourist visas

Tourist visas allow the traveler to enter the country for a given period of time, for the purpose of tourism only. Travelers are strongly advised not to use a tourist visa for any other purpose besides tourism. Generally speaking tourist visas require less documentation than business visa applications. Some countries refer to a tourist visa as a tourist card.

Single entry visa

Allows the traveler to enter and leave the country once before the visa becomes invalid.

Single entry visa 90 days

Allows the traveler to enter and leave the country once within a 90 day period.

The period of time after the number of entries refers to the actual validity of the visa, for example a Single entry 90 day visa issued on the 1 January 2006 will expire on the 31 March 2006. The 90 days refers to the time in which the applicant can enter and leave the country and does not necessarily refer to the number of days they can spend in the country. The number of days they can actually stay in the country is usually determined by the immigration officer who stamps the passport at the point of entry into the country. In some cases the 90 days as in 'Single entry 90 days' refers to the maximum length of time the visa can be issued for. The actual length of validity of the visa could be anything up to that maximum figure and is determined by the visa officer who issues the visa at the Embassy.

Triple entry visa

Allows the traveler to enter and leave the country three times before the visa becomes in valid.

Double entry visa

Allows the traveler to enter and leave the country twice before the visa becomes invalid.

Multiple entry visa

Allows the traveler to enter and leave the country any number of times before the visa becomes invalid.

Multiple entry visa 1 year

Allows the traveler to enter and leave the country any number of times with the 1 year validity period. Generally speaking the more entries a visa has the more expensive the visa is and in some cases extra documentation is required for multiple entry visas. The traveler should always check the start date and end date of the visa which is stated on the visa. In some cases the issue date of the visa is not the same as the start date.

USA

Who needs a visa?

Anyone who is not eligible to enter the United States visa free under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), or is not exempt from the visa requirement. Please note: Travelers born in the United States and those who hold dual citizenship with the United States must enter and depart the United States on U.S. passports.

Nonimmigrant Visas

The following provides information on visa requirements for travelers to the United States who wish to visit, work or study for a temporary period. The type of visa required will depend on the purpose of your travel. Many travelers seeking to enter the U.S. for business or tourism for less than 90 days will be eligible to travel to the United States visa free under the Visa Waiver Program.

Method of Application
With limited exceptions, nonimmigrant visa applicants aged 14 to 79 are required to schedule an appointment for an interview with a U.S. consular officer. Interviews are by appointment only. The Embassy does not accept walk-in applications.

Processing Times
Routine visa applications take approximately 5 workdays to process after the visa interview. Applicants who tick yes to box 38 should be aware that it is difficult to predict how long the application will take to process, but can expect to wait a minimum of 14 to 16 weeks before being advised of the outcome of their application. Applicants who are advised at the time of the visa interview that their application will require additional administrative processing should allow at least 60 days for this stage of the application to be completed. Please note that the processing times quoted are approximate and cannot be guaranteed.

Applicants who are advised at the time of their interview that action on their application has been suspended under Section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act are required to allow 10 - 15 days for their application to be processed once they submit the missing documents to the Embassy

When Visas Are Not Required

Ordinarily, foreign nationals entering the United States must have valid visas unless they qualify for travel under the Visa Waiver Program. However, there are some specific exceptions as described in the following paragraphs.

Canadian Citizens
Canadian citizens carrying valid Canadian passports do not require visas if traveling to the United States for business or pleasure or in transit. Note: A valid passport is required if traveling to the United States from the United Kingdom.

Bermudan Nationals
Citizens of the British Overseas Territories of Bermuda do not require visas if traveling to the United States for business or pleasure or in transit unless they have a criminal ineligibility, or have previously violated the terms of their immigration status in the United States. Note: A valid passport is required if traveling to the United States from the United Kingdom.

In order to fulfill the passport requirements of the Immigration and Nationality Act, Bermuda passports must have the following endorsement the "HOLDER POSSESSES BERMUDA STATUS", or a separate certificate of Bermuda status should be presented with the passport. In addition, if the bearer does not possess Bermudian status, s/he must have a landing permit, reentry permit, or residential certificate/card for entry

Mexican Nationals
Mexican nationals carrying valid Mexican passports and United States B-1/B-2 Visa and Border Crossing Cards, Form DSP-150, may travel to the United States for business or pleasure.

Note: As of March 17, 2003, Landed Immigrants of Canada and British residents of Bermuda who are citizens of, and have valid passports from, Commonwealth countries or Ireland are no longer eligible to enter the U.S. without a visa.

SCHENGEN VISA

Traveling on a Schengen Visa means that the visa holder can travel to any (or all) member countries using one single visa, thus avoiding the hassle and expense of obtaining individual visas for each country. This is particularly beneficial for persons who wish to visit several European countries on the same trip.

The Schengen visa is a "visitor visa". It is issued to citizens of countries who are required to obtain a visa before entering Europe. The purpose of the visit must be leisure, tourism, or business. Upon the issuance of the visa, the visa holder is allowed to enter all member countries and travel freely throughout the Schengen area. It is strongly recommended to plan your journey within the timeframe of the Schengen Visa as extensions can be very difficult to obtain, thus forcing you to leave to stay in compliance with the Schengen Rules and Regulations. A Schengen visa allows the holder to travel freely within the Schengen countries for a maximum stay of up to 90 days in a 6 month period.

All Schengen countries are in Europe. However, it should not be confused with the European Union (EU). Schengen and EU are two different agreements between European countries.

As of 2007, the Schengen Treaty countries consist of:
- Austria
- Germany
- Belgium
- Denmark
- Finland
- France
- Greece
- Iceland
- Italy
- Luxembourg
- Norway
- Portugal
- Spain
- Sweden
- The Netherlands

You can apply for the Schengen visa on the following link: http://www.schengenvisa.cc/?NS_cid=1
