Student cards

The NUS Democracy Card is available to all members of NUS-affiliated students' unions free of charge. This card acts as a student ID and proves your membership of your local union allowing you to access local union facilities, voting in your union elections and also participating in NUS' democratic events such as annual conference.

The Democracy Card will not provide access to any discounts or special offers.

Your Democracy Card will also give you access to all of the information, advice and campaign updates available through nusonline. Democracy Cardholders also have the opportunity to register with nusonline and opt in to receive the monthly NUS e-newsletter with the latest information, advice and details of how to get involved in national campaigns. To register online you will need your Democracy Card number and a valid email address.

If your union issues a local college or union card, unfortunately you will not be able to register with nusonline but you will have access to all other opportunities to participate in your union's and NUS democractic structures as well as the opportunity to browse the open areas of nusonline.co.uk.

NUS Extra is a new student discount card that is only available to students who are members of an NUS-affiliated students' union (similar to the Democracy Card). As a Democracy Cardholder you can upgrade to Extra at any time by visiting www.nusextra.co.uk or your students' union.

The NUS Extra Card is available for only £10 and will get you access to the widest range of discounts locally, nationally and online.

Apply for your NUS Extra Card before you start university or college or upgrade your Democracy Card online! Simply visit www.nusextra.co.uk where you can apply online* and your card will be waiting for you at the start of term! *If your union is not listed on the NUS Extra website, please visit your students' union to obtain your card.

In order to purchase an NUS Associate Card you must be a student that fits in to one of the following categories:

• a student studying in Year 12 or 13 at a school or sixth form college that is not already an NUS Constituent Member, fee of £7
• a student enrolled with the Open University, fee of £10
• a student member of one of the professional organisations participating in the 2006/07 scheme

The NUS Associate Card allows you to benefit from discounts on certain products and services. The discounts available to you and the organisations providing such benefits are not fixed and may vary or be withdrawn at any time.

NUS Associate Membership is different from full NUS membership as Associate members do not have access to NUS' democratic structures or voting rights at NUS Conferences. However Associate Members are issued with a student ID card, the NUS Associate Card which provides access to a number of national and local discounts. In addition Associate Members have access to the information and advice at www.nusonline.co.uk including special offers and discounts, information and issues that affect all students, as well information on the latest NUS campaigns and how you can become involved.
